As we celebrate Women’s History Month, we want to take time to bring attention to how essential women are to our team and broader company mission. At Giving Assistant, we value women’s voices and benefit from women’s leadership.
To help put that in perspective: 50% of our senior leadership team are women, and 42% of our total employees are women. We’re proud to amplify the women who elevate our organization every day with their vision and dedication to excellence, who transform bold company goals into laudable accomplishments.
We’re committed to doing right by our entire team, which means upholding an equitable environment. This stems from our philosophy for how a company should run. It also connects to our responsibility as a B Corporation to use business to contribute to a better world — where women everywhere have equitable opportunity and support, and organizations that protect women’s rights and uplift their achievements through public policy have the resources to continue that critically important work.
Q&A with Women at Giving Assistant
We’re grateful for the women on our team who continue to contribute to that mission. With this in mind, we asked a few of the women at Giving Assistant what Women’s History Month, working at a B-Corp, and being in the tech industry means to them.
Q: What do you find most exciting about working in tech? What are some of the more challenging aspects? Rewarding aspects?
Marwa Muhammad, Product |
A: “Tech evolves constantly so it’s a space where you’re always learning. There are new skills to hone, new books to read, new processes to get familiar with. Entering the space in itself can be challenging because technical subjects are often introduced much later than other subjects in school, so it can feel like we are always behind on technology-related skills compared to our other skills unless we actively spend time to learn and grow. I find that tech as an industry has made significant strides in creating a more flexible, remote-friendly environment with work-life balance.” Q: Marwa’s Favorite Nonprofit Q: Favorite Fictional Female Character |
Marlo Miller, People Ops |
A: “I feel like tech is always two steps ahead of a lot of other industries and constantly focuses on ‘how can we make this better?’ The ever-fluctuating nature of the tech industry makes it a space where a growth mindset is crucial. Taking that a step further, working in ‘tech for good’ means we are focused on incrementally making our product better so we can make the nonprofits we serve and their communities better.

A: “The opportunity to build something that doesn’t exist. Given this, there’s often no roadmap so you have to chart your own course… which can be incredibly challenging.”

A: “Tech is exciting because you have the opportunity to work on potentially groundbreaking projects and software. It can be challenging because every day you may have a new problem to figure out and there often isn’t a clear answer or solution. But that’s also the rewarding part! When you’re collaborating with other like-minded individuals and come to a solution together it’s very exciting.

What does Women’s History Month mean to you?
Caroline Vivat, Innovation & Business Development |
A: “My mom named me after Elizabeth Cady Stanton, one of the most influential leaders of the women’s suffrage movement in the late 19th century, and Caroline Kennedy, who has carried on her family’s diplomatic tradition through an impressive career in law and government. We, as women, really do stand on the shoulders of the giants who came before us.”

Teresa Galido, Growth Team |
A: “Although it is great to have a month to commemorate what women have accomplished in the world, we still have a lot of work to do as a society to make sure women are recognized /compensated/celebrated in the same way as their male-identifying counterparts are. Systemic change is necessary to combat implicit bias and if a dedicated month is a start, then great, but the work doesn’t stop there.” Q: Favorite Nonprofit: |

A: “Women’s History Month means honoring brave, inspiring, and the most influential women that have gone against the grain to make a positive impact in society. It’s a time to remember strong women leaders and reflect on how I can be a positive influence for my daughter.”

What is your favorite part about working at a Certified B-Corporation?

A: “It’s wonderful being a part of an organization that holds itself to such high standards by everyday prioritizing their commitment to be a force of good in this world. The Giving Assistant team really walks the walk both professionally and personally, and it’s so inspiring to work along side a group of people who are passionate about making the world a better place.”

A: “The people. Most of our employees joined the team because they were drawn to our mission and I’m continually inspired by my colleagues’ passion for their work. When the pandemic hit, our People Operations and leadership teams did an amazing job taking action early and supporting our team’s needs throughout the transition to working fully remote. They prioritized our team’s physical and mental well-being during a difficult time and it meant a lot.”

A: “I love working at a B Corp for so many reasons. First off, using business as a force for good is such an empowering concept that is becoming more relevant and necessary with each passing day. In my opinion, the corporate landscape is changing for the better and I am confident B Corp principles will help inform this transformation. I also love working at a B Corp because of how well they treat and support their employees. Lastly, being a part of the B community allows us the opportunity to learn from and work with so many incredible organizations.”
