2. Girls Who Code
Girls Who Code is a nonprofit organization dedicated to closing the gender gap in tech. She Should Run is a nonprofit and nonpartisan organization “working to dramatically increase the number of women considering a run for public office.” Know a woman in your community who should be running for office? 4. La Casa De Las Madres
La Casa De Las Madres is a San Francisco based nonprofit to support victims and survivors of domestic violence. 7. Kiva
Kiva is a nonprofit financial organization that helps provide loans to often excluded or otherwise prevented from accessing accessing traditional methods of credit. The organization sources the financial backing for loans through crowdfunding, with individual donors lending $25 or more if they choose. Once the borrower repays the loan (Kiva has a repayment rate of around 96%) the lenders can either donate their repaid portion, use it to fund a new loan, or withdraw it. What is Women’s History Month?
Women’s History Month is a national celebration of women’s myriad accomplishments and contributions throughout American history. The initial form of this observation was Women’s History Week, which according to the National Women’s History Museum “began as a local celebration in Santa Rosa, California… to correspond with International Women’s Day” that spread to groups across the United States.
After lobbying from the National Women’s History Alliance (then known as the National Women’s History Project), Congress passed a resolution for Presidential proclamation of the week beginning March 7, 1982. The NWHP petitioned Congress further to expand the resolution — resulting in the designation of March in full as Women’s History Month since 1987.
